Today Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) announced iOS 5 at the WWDC conference in California. A beta version was released to iOS Developer Program members. iOS 5 beta has over 200 new features available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Some of the new features include:

– Notification Center – A new way to read notifications from applications without being interrupted. Notifications include Twitter and Facebook.
– iMessage – iMessage is a service that is similar to BBM on BlackBerrys. iMessage allows you to easily send send text messages, photos and videos between all iOS devices.
– Newsstand, a new way to purchase and organize your newspaper and magazine subscriptions.

iOS 5 can be upgraded over the air.

?iOS 5 has some great new features, such as Notification Center, iMessage and Newsstand and we can?t wait to see what our developers do with its 1,500 new APIs,? stated Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a press statement. ?Perhaps iOS 5?s paramount feature is that it?s built to seamlessly work with iCloud in the Post PC revolution that Apple is leading.?

In iOS 5, Safari has been improved as well. Safari now has a feature called Safari Reader. Safari Reader allows you to set the right font size to websites and easily scroll through stories. You can also save articles to read for later and it syncs across multiple iOS devices. Safari on iOS 5 will have Tabbed Browsing on the iPad.
