If you bought The Other Guys, Salt, and/or Resident Evil: Afterlife from iTunes, you may notice some extra features. When you input a line in the search button, then it will take you to a clip in the movie where it was uttered. There is also a “clip & share” function that lets the viewer select a scene from the movie and share it on social networks. There’s also a playlist of the songs from the movie with links to the iTunes purchase page.
Apple announced iTunes Extras in September 2009 for movie studios to add value to digital downloads. Usually the incentive for buying videos on DVD was because of the extra content, or “DVD extras.” On iTunes these features are only available to those who buy the movie, not rent it.
