Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced that the company will be launching its first smartphone service along with the launch of Mario Kart 8 at the end of May. The service is code-named “Mario Kart TV” and it will allow users watch official and user-generated videos of the game through desktop browsers and mobile devices.
Nintendo will also use the NFC reader built in the Wii U GamePad by launching the Nintendo Figurine Platform (NFP). This will let you interact with toy figures through the games Skylanders and Disney Infinity. Nintendo is going to share more details about the platforms at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June. The first set of figures will be launching this June.
The company will also release an NFC adapter for the Nintendo 3DS handheld and will issue an update to the Wii U, which would decrease the system startup time by 20 seconds.
