November is one of the competitive months for selling game consoles. Between sales generated for Black Friday and the upcoming holidays, consoles sell by the millions. This past November, Nintendo game out on top for portable devices and gaming consoles.
According to a report by market research company NPD, the Nintendo Wii outsold the number of consoles than the XBox 360 by close to 3-to-1. in November. The number of Wiis shipped in November were 2.04 million, XBox 360 shipped 836,000 units, and the Sony Playstation 3 lagged behind with 378,000 units.
Microsoft Corporation stated that sales of their XBox 360 console increased 25% on Black Friday compared to the same day last year. Microsoft believes that this increase was due to the release of games such as Gears of War 2, Fable II, and Lips. In the last month, Microsoft launched a new service called the Xbox Experience that integrates with Netflix’s streaming movie collection.
In the portable device market, Nintendo shipped 1.57 million DS units. Sony PSP shipped less than 30% of what Nintendo shipped, 421,000 units.
?It’s clear that the consumer demand is exceptionally strong. With all our activity and effort, we can’t commit that the product will be available up until Christmas Day. We’re in uncharted territories when it comes to demand,” stated Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo’s head of operations in America.
Video game sales last month were about $2.9 billion, up 10% from the year earlier.
