The Nokia X was hacked to support Android apps

Posted Mar 1, 2014

About a week ago, Nokia Corporation unveiled their first Android phones under the X line. The handset will be used for promoting Microsoft services instead of Google. Only a few days later, hackers were able to gain root access to the Nokia X and enable it to use Android apps and services.

XDA-Developers users Kashamalaga converted his Nokia X to run on the Google Play Store and Google apps. Kashamalaga was able to get Gmail, Google Now, Google Maps, and Google Hangouts to appear on the Nokia X developer handset.

The Nokia X already seemed to be in Nokia’s pipeline before Microsoft up and acquired their phone business.
