Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) has acquired desktop software company GreenBytes for an undisclosed sum. GreenBytes’ VDI software is based on ZFS and includes its own deduplication engine with replication and virtualization features.
The software runs on flash hardware and GreenBytes originally sold a VDI flash appliance, but it went into hardware in August of last year. GreenBytes was founded by Bob Petrocelli in 2007. GreenBytes raised around $37 million in VC funding prior to the acquisition.
“GreenBytes’ technology complements Oracle’s storage solutions and is expected to enhance Oracle’s ZFS Storage Appliances. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2014,” said Oracle in a statement.
