Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:ORCL) believes that Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) owes them $1.16 billion in damages for copyright and patent infringement of Java software used in the Android operating system.

Earlier Oracle was seeking $6.1 billion from Google. Oracle filed the lawsuit against Google in August 2010. Oracle acquired the company that developed Java technology, Sun Microsystems, in April 2009.

The trial for the lawsuit is expected to start on October 31 in front of U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco. On July 22, the judge rejected Oracle’s $6.1 billion request and allowed them to revise the claim.
