Olivia Martins is the 80-year-old mother-in-law of a store owner in New Bedford. She fearlessly threw fruit at a couple of robbers. One of them pistol whipped her in the head, but she kept going after them.
Otilia Martins was shopping at her family’s store, the Continental Market on Sawyer Street, when two men entered the store at 1:30PM. They held the store at gunpoint and ran off with a bunch of cash. Martins received a laceration from the pistol whip, but she is doing fine now. After a chase, the suspects were pinned down and the police arrested them.
The robbers were found in a second floor apartment at a building on Belleville Avenue. The suspects were identified as Jesse Dossantos (32) and Eduardo Torres Lopez, Jr. (22). The men are facing charges that include armed robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery on a person over age 60.
