PagerDuty is an IT alert service that has raised $10.7 million from Andreessen Horowitz. PagerDuty is a software-as-a-service that provides on-call schedule management, incident tracking, and alerting. You can add scheduling to existing monitoring solutions and it alerts teams through SMS, phone, or e-mail. PagerDuty will using the funding to build additional services and a platform for how staff responds to alerts.
PagerDuty is also planning to develop new mobile applications for notifications. In 2010, PagerDuty raised a $1.9 million seed round from angel investors as a Y Combinator startup company. PagerDuty’s engineering group is divided into teams of 5-10 people. Engineers have pagers and they get notified when a problem comes up. If the engineers do not respond, the managers get a call.
PagerDuty uses Pingdom for website monitoring, New Relic for instrumenting, and Nagios for server monitoring. After an error pops up, the scheduling service sends the message to the person that is on call. PagerDuty is profitable and they have thousands of customers.
