Online payment service has announced a new feature that will help alleviate the hassles of shopping through mobile devices.  They are launching a universal payment service called “Log In With PayPal.”  The service will allow you to easily sign in with your PayPal username and password.  This allows users to avoid the hassle in filling out their payment details and shipping information.  Merchants benefit from this feature because it can be used to verify a buyer’s identity.

“Log In with PayPal (formerly PayPal Access) is a commerce identity solution that enables your customers to sign in to your web site quickly and securely using their PayPal login credentials. Log In with PayPal utilizes the latest security standards, and you don’t have to worry about storing user data on your system. Log In with PayPal also offers a seamless checkout feature which provides a choice to customers who are already logged in with PayPal to checkout without the need to log in to PayPal again. For more information about this feature, see Seamless Checkout,” says PayPal on their Developer Page.

In an interview with VentureBeat, PayPal senior director of identity Damon Houghland, said that about half of users end up leaving shopping websites if they cannot remember their account passwords.  Around a quarter of the users abandon their carts if they become frustrated with entering shopping information on a small screen.

Implementing this tool will be easy for developers because it uses open web technologies like OAuth and JSON.  Developers can implement this tool into native iOS apps now.
