The Pebble is a smart watch that talks to your iPhone and Android device using several open-source apps. They were initially looking for just $100,000 on Kickstarter, but they ended up raising over $1.8 million so far.
They hit $500,000 in funding on Wednesday evening itself, which is just 28 hours after their Kickstarter project launched. There are 35 days remaining on Kickstarter. Some people have previously purchased the predecessor of the Pebble watch called the InPulse. Each of the early investors gets a Pebble watch at a discount of $115 instead of the $150 that they plan on charging.
Pebble’s surge in funding from Kickstarter only means that there is a need that has not yet been met, the ability to extend smartphone functionality to wearable devices. The Pebble simple communicates with your apps instead of trying to replicate them.
