FiftyThree is a startup that is known for developing a couple aesthetic and popular apps for the Apple App Store. Now FiftyThree is getting into the hardware game with the introduction of a Bluetooth-powered stylus for the iPad called Pencil.
The Pencil does not have pressure-sensitivity, but it has “Kiss-to-Touch” pairing with the Paper app. There are no switches or hidden settings to turn on. The Pencil has palm rejection, an eraser tool at the end of the style, and a new Blend mode. In the Paper digital sketchbook app, the Blend mode works requires the stylus and it lets you use your finger to smudge your sketches along with the ability to stretch out lines.
Pencil works with the iPad mini and above along with the third-generation iPad and above. You can buy Pencil from the company’s online store for $50 (graphite) or $60 (walnut and magnetic snap).
