Qualcomm, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) has acquired 2,400 patents from Hewlett Packard that covers Palm, iPaq, and Bitfone related patents and pending patents. The price of the acquisition was undisclosed. Patent lawsuits are very common nowadays so this could be a precautionary measure.
The Compaq iPaq was launched in 2000 and the company was bought by HP in 2002. HP acquired Bitfone in 2006 and Palm in 2010. HP later sold Palm’s webOS to LG in February 2013.
Correction: An earlier version of this article was reported that Qualcomm bought 1,400 patents from HP. It was actually 2,400.
