RadioShack Selling Acer Netbooks For $99, But There’s A Catch

Posted Dec 13, 2008

RadioShack has announced that they are teaming up with Acer and AT&T to sell a specific Netbook for $99.  Netbooks are basically laptops, but much smaller-sized and with basic features.  The Acer Aspire normally sells for about $500, but AT&T is subsidizing the rest of the cost.  Here’s the catch:

Customers have to sign up for a two-year AT&T DataConnect mobile broadband service agreement.  The plan starts at $60 per month.  But this will give users access to the Internet wherever AT&T has a broadband connection.

“Many people internationally are already enjoying the portability, on-the-go connectivity and affordability of this emerging new technology,” stated Peter Whitsett, RadioShack EVP of merchandising. “We are proud to introduce this concept in the U.S. by offering a netbook with integrated 3G functionality in addition to full Wi-Fi capability.”
