Rdio has acquired a music discovery service called TastemakerX, according to Pando. TastemakerX started out as a streaming music service with a “gamification” element. The company later pivoted towards focusing on what people were sharing on all music services like Pandora, YouTube, Spotify, and Rdio.
TastemakerX founder Marc Ruxin will become the COO of Rdio following the acquisition. The whole seven-person team at TastemakerX will join Rdio. Earlier this year, Rdio decided to stop using music data from The Echo Nest.
The Echo Nest was acquired by Spotify shortly before that. The TastemakerX team will focus on a unique approach for sharing with the people that you speak with often.
