REPORT: Apple To Switch From 30-Pin Connector To 19 Pins

Posted Jul 23, 2012

Reuters is reporting that the new iPhone would be built with a 19-connector port rather than the standard 30-pin connector that the company has been using for years.  Two unnamed sources reported the change with Reuters.

Apple is removing the extra pins in order to make room for the earphone moving to the bottom of the device.  This means that the 30-pin accessories that support the current versions of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch will made not work on the new device.

However some analysts are predicting that Apple will come out with some sort of complimentary adapter for the new 19-pin port in order to satisfy currently clients that want to upgrade to the new iPhone, but are tied to expensive accessories that they have bought.
