International Business Machines (IBM) is considering the sale of their chip business, according to The Financial Times. IBM may look for a new partner as part of a joint venture as well.
IBM reportedly hired Goldman Sachs to find out if anyone may be interested. IBM’s semiconductor business works with photonics, graphene, and carbon nanotubes.
IBM’s Power architecture is used in IBM servers and supercomputers like Watson. Last month, IBM said that they were selling their x86-architecture server division to Lenovo. Lenovo also acquired IBM’s PC business in 2004.
