Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is preparing to announce a new round of layoffs as part of a restructuring, according to The Wall Street Journal. The layoffs are expected to affect middle management in the sales and support departments. Last fiscal year, RIM layer off around 5,000 people. Richard Piasentin, BlackBerry’s sales VP in the U.S. was affected by this round of layoffs. He was fired this past June.
BlackBerry is also going to lose a couple of board members. The company said that John Wetmore and John Richardson will not be pursuing a re-election to the board.
Thorsten Heins has repeatedly asked investors to be patient. BlackBerry saw a loss for their first fiscal quarter and they are expecting another loss for this quarter. When Heins was asked why they are struggling in the United States, Heins blamed U.S. carriers for promoting devices like the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy line more.
