WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was given political asylum in Ecuador said Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino today.  However Assange is currently in London under watch by the government there.  Assange does not want to be sent to Sweden where he is wanted for questioning over allegations that relate to rape and assault.  The U.S. considers Assange’s website a threat because WikiLeaks contains a large amount of leaked government documents.  The United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that they are disappointed with the statement from Ecuador.
