Recently a press release was sent out that Dell is working on a PC that comes preloaded with the Android operating system. Although Google Android was intended for mobile phones, the Linux-based open source operating system could be easily modified to work on PCs. Best of all, Android is free.
Dell isn’t the only one rumored to be working on Android. HP has been rumored to be working on Android for their netbooks. The press release was quickly removed from BSquare’s website. The press release stated that Dell “leverages Bsquare’s Android competency to improve the Adobe Flash Lite experience on Dell’s Mini Inspiron 910.”
Andrew Bowins, a Dell spokesperson stated that the press release was sent out by BSquare as an error. He stated that Dell is constantly assessing new technologies, but never specifically said what was in error with the press release. This is why the rumor is that Dell may come out with an Android-powered PC sometime in the future.
