Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) may have been pressured into snapping up Motorola. If Google did not buy them, the chances of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) may have been high. According to GigaOM, Motorola was in acquisition talks with several companies, including Microsoft.
Apparently Microsoft did not want to run a hardware business and was only interested in Motorola’s patents. This is why Motorola believed Google was a better fit. Google had moved aggressively on this deal and agreed to purchase Motorola for $40 per share, which is a 60% premium of the company’s recent stock price.
The talks between Google and Motorola started five weeks ago. Google CEO Larry Page and Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha had numerous discussions beforehand.
