According to TechCrunch, Shutterfly is in talks to acquire ThisLife for $25 million. ThisLife was founded by husband and wife Matt Johnson and Andrea Johnson. The company is a cloud-based storage application for hosting pictures. ThisLife is especially known for having a clean user interface.
ThisLife had raised $2.75 million from Madrona Venture Group, Morado Ventures, Rogers Venture Partners, Brad Jefferson (Animoto co-founder), Sujal Patel (Isilon co-founder), and YouSendIt CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
ThisLife allows users to import photos from photo sharing we bites like Facebook, Picasa, Instagram, Shutterfly, Flickr, Twitter, and SmugMug. The company has a desktop uploader tool for Mac and Windows to transfer iPhoto galleries and uploading individual pictures or folders. If you opt in to your favorite photo services, the desktop uploader will constantly import files from there.
After the files are grabbed, ThisLife shows your photos in a horizontal timeline. The service also has a facial-recognition tool to easily tag friends. Names and data can be pulled from your Facebook account for the facial-recognition tool.
Shutterfly supposedly has an interest in ThisLife’s algorithm, engineering talent, and product group. Shutterfly has been on an acquisition binge lately. The company acquired Penguin Digital, Tiny Prints, Photoccino, and Nexco recently. Shutterfly also acquired Kodak’s online platform for $23.8 million as well.
