Selfridges is a British department store that is calling the BlackBerry Q10 their “fastest-ever selling consumer electronics product.” As a result, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins expects the Q10 sales to be in the “tens of millions.” Thousands of Q10s are being sold per hour. One Selfridges location sold 2,000 handsets in 90 minutes, according to SeekingAlpha.
Selfridges is the only company in the U.K. to sell the BlackBerry Q10 this past weekend at a price of £579.99 (US$900 including 20% sales tax). Selfridges has only 4 stores in the U.K. Interestingly, many of the buyers snapped up as many as 20 unlocked phones at once with the goal of selling them in other countries.
Heins was quoted as saying “we have very, very good first signs already after the launch in the U.K…. We expect several tens of million of units.” Heins said this at the Milken Institute conference today in Los Angeles, according to Bloomberg.
