Samsung has announced a new smartwatch product called the Galaxy Gear.  The Galaxy Gear is a smartphone accessory that supports notifications, controls music playback, and can keep time.  There is also a 1.9-megapixel camera, speaker, and two microphones.  You can use the Galaxy Gear to shoot 720p movies and take phone calls.  The Galaxy Gear relies on a Bluetooth connection in order to connect to the phone.

The Galaxy Gear will be going for sale later this month and is going to be compatible with the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition.  After a software update, the Galaxy Gear will also be compatible with the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S III, and the Galaxy Note II.

The Galaxy Gear has a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with a 320×320 resolution, single-core 800MHz Exynos processor, a buckle, and a metal face.  The Galaxy Gear has six shades of adjustable wrist bands.

Some of the built-in apps include a pedometer and the ability to find your Galaxy devices.  There are over 70 apps to choose from on the Galaxy Gear, which can be installed using the Galaxy Gear Manager.  The Galaxy Gear has an intuitive user interface and swipe gestures.

The Galaxy Gear uses Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy standards to communicate and a 315mAh battery.  There is 4GB of onboard storage built into the Galaxy Gear.  The shutter sound built into the camera cannot be turned off.

The Galaxy Gear has a $299 price.  It will be available starting in early October.
