Samsung Does Not Find Underage Workers At HEG Factory

Posted Sep 4, 2012

Last month HEG Electronics was accused by the China Labor Watch of using child labor in Huizhou, China.  Samsung sent their own auditors in response to the charge and they did not identify any underage workers.  However they did find uncover workers aged between 16-17, but these were student workers whose presence was legal.  Samsung’s investigators conducted an investigation of HR records, face-to-face ID checks, and 1:1 interviews with younger workers.  The investigation did uncover poor management and fines for being late.  There was also poor health and safety measures.  A team of around 100 Samsung employees will now complete on-site inspections for all of its 105 suppliers in China by the end of September.  [TheVerge]
