Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (KRX:005930) has announced that Knox now has 1.8 million active users, according to senior vice president and head of Knox development Rhee In-jong. Samsung Knox is an enterprise service that secures Android devices in corporate environments. Samsung is hoping that Knox will be a major player in the “Internet of Things” market.
Knox has been integrated with 24 Samsung smartphone models and there are over 87 million Knox-enabled devices out there. Although the percentage of Knox-based devices to Knox-enabled devices is small, there is still a bit of traction for the software in regulated industries like government, defense, and finance agencies.
For example, Samsung gained the support of the UK government and the US Department of Defense for classifications of information.
Samsung launched the first version of Knox in early 2013 with the launch of the Galaxy S4. Knox also offers work and personal partitions that is similar to the BlackBerry Balance feature. Samsung launched Knox 2.0 with the Galaxy S5 in February of last year. Samsung also added a Knox store for enterprise apps.
