Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (KRX:005935) has acquired Shelby.tv, a social video startup. Shelby.tv is a company that built a video curation service that aggregates content from Hulu, YouTube, Vimeo, Blip and several other services.
The content is curated based on what was shared by friends on social media. Customized channels were created for users. Shelby.tv also tracked your likes and dislikes to learn more about your tastes. Samsung now has plans to create its own curated video service.
“Our team is excited to develop new technology to meet these challenges as part of Samsung Electronics. Working with Samsung Electronics means we?ll have the resources to start fresh, building products that change the way we watch and discover our favorite content, now and long into the future,” said Samsung in a blog post.
Shelby.tv will be shutting down. Users can export their favorite videos before it shuts down by following these instructions. Shelby.tv users will have until July 1st to export their video library.
