Samsung Gets Fined $340K For Paying Internet Trolls To Bash On HTC

Posted Oct 24, 2013

According to Bloomberg/BusinessWeek, Samsung Electronics has been hit with a $340,000 fine for paying Internet trolls to bash on HTC products and praise Samsung.  The fine imposed on Samsung was from Taiwan?s Fair Trade Commission.

Samsung is getting bigger by the day and they have a lot of money to spend on marketing.  Samsung getting fined seems a little bit strange because other tech companies have paid journalists and publications to praise them.

The consumer protection body said that Samsung’s Internet campaign violated fair trade rules to praise Samsung smartphones while bashing on HTC.  The Taiwan Fair Trade Commission also imposed smaller fines on the two Taiwanese trading companies that were responsible for the Internet campaign.
