Shortly after a rumor started circulating that Apple is building a 12-inch tablet, there is another rumor circulating that Samsung is reportedly building a 12.2-inch tablet according to Korean website ET News. Apple’s 12-inch tablet is now expected to arrive until 2014, thus giving Samsung an advantage if they can get it out by this year.
ET News cited unnamed sources and they said that the tablets will have WQXGA displays with a native screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The tablets will likely use Sharp’s Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) panels. Samsung invested over $100 million in Sharp back in March, making them very strategic partners. Samsung’s investment was also made based on the assumption that they will be able to utilize Sharp’s IGZO display technology.
The 12-inch tablet is also going to support Samsung’s S-Pen stylus. With a 12-inch screen, there will be plenty of room to draw some great pictures without having to worry as much about the borders. ET News said that Samsung has been working on the 12-inch tablet since mid-2012, but put them on the back burner due to the popularity of the 7-inch tablets. The reason why the 12-inch tablet is coming back is because of the PC/tablet hybrid trend that is taking off this year.
