Samsung Is Not Releasing A Tizen Smartphone Until Next Year

Posted Nov 11, 2013

Samsung Electronics said that they will not be releasing their first Tizen powered smartphone until 2014.  This means that Samsung is several months behind schedule. Tizen is a mobile operating system that was created through a partnership between Samsung and Intel as an alternative to Android.

Samsung announced Tizen at the Mobile World Congress in February.  They said that the first device running Tizen was expected to arrive by the end of the year.

There is no report about what the name of a phone powered by Tizen would be called.  However, there is a developer phone that is known as the Z9005 Redwood.  The specs of that phone are unknown.

Tizen will be used on both high-end and low-end phones.  There is a report that Tizen Mobile Lite will be on phones that runs on 256MB of RAM and a low resolution of 320 x 240 pixels.
