Seagate Hits 2 Billion Hard Drives Shipped Milestone

Posted Mar 12, 2013

Seagate first started selling hard drives in 1980 and their total sales has doubled since 2008.  It took 29 years to hit one billion in shipped hard drives.  After that, it took only 4 years to hit the second billion in total hard drives shipped.  This proves that there has been a surge in demand for Seagate hard drives in recent years.

“This is truly an impressive accomplishment and I am proud to lead this company as we celebrate this success,” stated Seagate president, CEO, and chairman Steve Luczo. This achievement is a testament to the commitment of our employees whose relentless dedication and personal pride continue to be the fabric of this company.”

Seagate is the first hard disk drive manufacturer to ship 2 billion hard disk drives (HDDs).  One of the primary reasons for Seagate’s hard drive growth is because of digital content demands including social media and mobile devices.
