Senator Joe Lieberman Pushed Amazon.com To Drop Wikileaks

Posted Dec 2, 2010

Senator Joe Lieberman, the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, had slightly pressured Amazon.com to remove Wikileaks from their cloud servers. Wikileaks was hit with a DDoS attack so they moved their cables over to Amazon’s cloud servers.

Amazon’s “decision to cut off Wikileaks now is the right decision and should set the standard for other companies Wikileaks is using to distribute its illegally seized material” said Lieberman. Amazon’s cloud servers are self-served and is not pre-approved of in real-time for what is being uploaded.

Lieberman and his staff called Amazon.com to ask about Wikileaks. “Are there plans to take the site down?” said the staff members. Amazon.com called them back to tell them that Wikileaks had been removed for violating unspecific terms of use. Wikileaks has been added back to servers in Sweden. Supposedly Lieberman has no plans to reach out to other web hosting services that will be hosting Wikileaks.
