Shopify Launches A New Store-Building System Known As Shopify 2

E-commerce platform company Shopify has redesigned their store-building system, which is now known as Shopify 2.  Shopify 2 has been in private beta since October 2012 and it is available for 50,000 online stores in public now. Shopify redesigned their e-commerce platform after users of user experience research and feedback.  The new dashboard makes creating an online store much easier.

?Shopify 2 is our most ambitious project to date,? stated Shopify co-founder and CEO Tobias Lütke. ?We have been working on Shopify 2 for years now, and we are very excited to finally release it to the world. We made substantial improvements across the entire platform. Shopify 2 is significantly more powerful, more intuitive, and will allow us to continue our rapid growth and expansion across all forms of commerce.?

Shopify 2 now has over 60 new features and updates including a live theme editor and seamless paths to admin functions.  Shopify 2 was built with a JavaScript MWC framework known as batman.js.  The framework was developed within Shopify and was made open-source.

Shopify currently has about 170 employees at their headquarters in Ottawa, Canada and they plan to expand to 260 employees by the end of 2013.  Shopify 2 is available at a price of $14 per month with a 14-day trial.
