Skype has hired Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) executive Tony Bates. Bates currently heads Cisco’s commercial and small-business unit, a division that manages $20 billion in annual revenues and 12,500 employees.
Bates will be working as the new CEO of Skype. Skype filed plans for an IPO two months ago. Silver Lake Partners owns a majority of Skype after they spent $1.9 billion buying it from eBay. eBay still has ownership in Skype.
Skype has an alliance with Verizon Wireless by heavily promoting the Skype application. Adrian Dillon, Skype’s CFO and administrative office will be the interim CEO until Bates arrives.
