Skype has announced on their blog that they will have advertisements starting this week in the Home tab of Skype for Windows. Skype took a lot of time deciding how and when to place advertisements within their instant messaging service.
Skype is working with advertising partners such as Groupon, Universal Pictures, and Visa. The ads will appear in the U.S., U.K., and Germany. You may only see the ads occasionally.
Skype plans to use non-personal identifiable demographic data to show target ads. For example, they don’t want to show you U.K. ads if you live in the U.S. You can opt out from Skype collecting demographic information from you by selecting the Privacy tab in Tools -> Options.
