SpaceX, the private rocket company founded by Elon Musk, is going to launch the most massive rocket in existence this year called the Falcon Heavy. The Falcon Heavy looks similar to the Falcon 9, but it has two other Falcons strapped to the side of it.
This means that the Heavy has the equivalent of 15 Boeing 747s tied together, according to BusinessInsider. The only other rocket that has been heavier than the Falcon Heavy is the NASA Saturn V ship, which carried the Apollo and Skylab missions into space between 1966 and 1973.
The Heavy has a “Low Earth Orbit” payload of 53,000 kg and could carry 13,200 kg to Mars. Below is a video of how it works:
