Spike Lee has decided to go the crowd-funding route for his newest film. Lee wants to raise $1.25 million to fund his next feature film through Kickstarter because the current Hollywood studio system isn’t “encouraging” for independent directors. Lee is the director behind movies like He Got Game, Girl 6, Malcolm X, Do The Right Thing, The Original Kings of Comedy, and Jungle Fever.
Lee said that he was impressed by the way that the Veronica Mars movie was funded through Kickstarter. Lee did not giveaway much about the film that he wants to finance though. We do know the film explores addiction, pertaining to blood.
As of the time that I am writing this, Lee has hit $46,938 out of the $1.25 million goal with 29 days to go.
