Sprint has announced that it is going to be shutting down the WiMAX services in the U.S. by 2015. The shutdown includes the towers that the company owns in the region.
Sprint’s mobile virtual network operators that relies on WiMAX networks will not be able to access the networks once the network is turned off.
This means that over 6,000 towers will no longer be used by the carrier. Sprint is going to expand it LTE services across the country with its tri-band Sprint Spark service to make up for this.
