Susan Desmond-Hellmann, MD, MPH, who is currently the Chancellor University of California San Francisco, has joined Facebook’s board. Desmond-Hellmann is the second woman to join the social networking giant’s board.
Her previous positions include chief medical officer at Genentech, director of clinical cancer research at Bristol-Myers Squibb, and associate adjunct professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at UCSF.
Facebook’s board now includes Mark Zuckerberg, Marc L. Andreessen, James W. Breyer, Donald E. Graham, Reed Hastings, Peter A. Thiel, Sheryl Sandberg, and Susan Desmond-Hellmann.
Desmond-Hellmann also sits on the board at Procter & Gamble Co.
“Sue has a great track record of building and managing a diverse set of organizations, so her insights will be valuable as we continue to expand into new areas,” said Mark Zuckerberg , founder and CEO of Facebook. “Her experience shaping public policy and operating public companies fits well with the rest of the board and will make us an even stronger company.”
