Suzuki Motor Corporation (TYO:7269) is going to recall 193,936 cars and SUVs due to faulty air bag sensors in the front passenger seats. These vehicles include the Grand Vitara SUVs from 2006 to 2011 and SX4 from 2007 to 2011.
Here’s the problem: the sensor mats measures a passenger’s weight and determines if the air bag should deploy. The mats need to determine the size of the person in the seat so that it can send out the appropriate-sized air bag. Air bags can injure children and small adults. Suzuki said that the mats can stop worked after it is flexed repeatedly.
Suzuki said that there were no reports or injuries reported as a result. Owners of these vehicles will be notified next month. Suzuki dealers will be replacing the mats for free.
