Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ:SYMC) announced that it has closed a deal last week to acquire mobile app security and management company NitroDesk. Symantec was already partnered with NitroDesk and offered its TouchDown app as part of its App Center. The terms of the deal is unknown. NitroDesk is a nine-person company based in Bellevue, Washington.
NitroDesk will give Symantec a more complete offering for managing and securing mobile devices.
NitroDesk?s Touchdown application for Android separates corporate data from personal data on a mobile device using a secure container. The separation is important for companies that let employees bring their own devices to work. The Touchdown app ensures that data is not copied and pasted or moved to places where it should not be allowed. The TouchDown app also lets IT administrators create policies.
NitroDesk sells software through many other mobile security vendors and those partnerships will continue to exist. Symantec has not released plans for what it will do with NitroDesk’s products yet. There will not be any immediate changes for its current customers as of right now. The pricing will remain the same, which is a per user cost. TouchDown will eventually be rebranded though.
