T-Mobile users that often travel outside of the country will be thrilled to hear about this news. T-Mobile is launching a new program called Simple Choice so that users can use their data allowance and texting at no extra cost in over 100 countries around the world. Charges will also be capped for voice calls. Using international roaming can be very expensive when traveling.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere said that roaming charges are very profitable for the wireless industry, but T-Mobile does not benefit from this because they do not have many business customers that travel. T-Mobile is hoping to gain more subscribers without sacrificing that much revenue from this plan.
Legere also said that if they do not gain a lot of customers from this plan, T-Mobile will not be losing money in offering this service because of the existing agreements they have with wireless carriers around the world for more data use than what T-Mobile’s customers are using now.
While traveling outside of the country, T-Mobile customers will pay a flat rate of 20 cents per minute for voice calls to any to any of those same countries or to the U.S. Other carriers charge around $1 per minute.
T-Mobile also announced that they have signed a multi-year promotional deal with Shakira. Shakira was the headline performer at a T-Mobile announcement in New York yesterday evening.
