Tesla Founder Elon Musk Wants To Build An All-Electric Supersonic Jet One Day

One of the most creative and ambitious entrepreneurs in the world, Elon Musk, said that he wants to build an all-electric supersonic jet one day that could take off and land vertically.

The supersonic air travel would be able to travel at the speed of sound using an electric-powered jet that could take off and land vertically without needing a long runway.  Musk said that this would be the “ultimate form of transport,” as reported by The Daily.

“If somebody doesn’t do that, maybe at some point in the future, I will,” added Musk.  Hopefully one day Musk can focus on such an ambitious project when he is not busy with his day job of running Tesla Motors and SpaceX.

By traveling at supersonic speeds, an aircraft would be able to go from London to Shanghai in 7.5 hours.  Direct commercial flights take around 11 hours.  Musk said that all-electric planes would benefit the environment and would be quiet.  Airports that house these planes could be smaller since they would not need a runway.  Musk announced that one day he wants to build the all-electric supersonic jet during the Hangout on Google+ with Richard Branson.
