Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) Hits Over 3.2 Million Supercharger Miles

Posted Sep 23, 2013

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has announced today that over 3.2 million miles have been charged at Tesla Superchargers.  This offsets about 135,000 gallons of gas.  This month alone, Tesla opened up a couple of Superchargers in the Midwest, Texas, Florida, and in Europe.

With the help of Tesla Superchargers, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk will be able to take a cross-country road trip with his kids soon.  Back in May, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) reported that they were going to triple the number of Superchargers.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Superchargers lets Model S owners travel for free between cities along well-traveled highways in North America and Europe.  The Superchargers provides half a charge in about 20 minutes and they are strategically placed to allow owners to drive from station to station with minimal stops.  Today there are 23 stations in North America and 6 stations in Europe.  Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has a goal of hitting 80% coverage of the U.S. popular and parts of Canada.  By 2015, they want to hit 98% coverage.

The Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Superchargers can charge the Model S 20 times faster than most public charging stations.  Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) will soon be rolling out 120kW Superchargers, which are 33% faster than their current versions.

Supercharging is included in every Model S with an 85kWh battery and can be added to any 60kWh Model S for $2,000 (or $2,500 if enabled after delivery).
