Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has hit 6,000 pre-orders over the weekend for their crossover SUV called the Model X. The Model X is expected to go on sale starting sometime in 2014 or early 2015. Over 39 Model X vehicles were pre-ordered during the Plug-In Day Weekend. Model X pre-order #6,005 was reserved this past Sunday.
Many of the people that have pre-ordered the Model X already own a Model S or Roadster. Clearly Tesla owners have a tendency to be extremely loyal fans. The Model X would be able to carry seven passengers. It will have 60 kilowatt or 85 kilowatt hour battery pack options. All-Wheel-Drive capabilities will be an option through two electric motors. The 0-60MPH of the vehicle is believed to be under 5 seconds.
One of the most unique features of the Model X is the Falcon Wing rear doors. The two rear passenger doors lift up above the car like gull wing doors do. This gives easier access to the seats. The Model X also has a large 17-inch touch-screen center console.
The refundable reservations start at $5,000 for the base-model Model X and refundable reservations for the Model X Signature starts at $40,000.
