Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has received a top award for the ADAC EcoTest. The Tesla Motors Model S received 5 stars for efficiency at 98 points total. This puts the Model S at a higher number than the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition (90 points) and the Renault Zoe (92 points).
The ADAC reported that the Model S number is especially impressive because the vehicle weighs over 2 tons. The ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V.) is the largest automobile club in Germany and Europe as a whole. The organization reportedly had over 18 million members as of May 2012. The results are based on the vehicle’s ability to handle all types of driving conditions and fuel efficiency.
The ADAC EcoTest focuses primarily on environmental protection. The emissions on vehicles are closely examined by the ADAC and getting a 5 star rating means that the car has higher clean energy than its rivals.
Some of the other accolades that the Model S has won include the 2013 World Green Car of the Year, the Automobile Magazine 2013 Car of the Year, the Motor Trend 2013 Car of the Year, the Time Magazine Best 25 Inventions of the Year 2012, the Green Car Reports’ Best Car To Buy 2013, the Consumer Reports best car ever tested with a score of 99 out of 100, and the Natural Resources Canada 2013 EcoENERGY for Vehicles Award.
