The Collective Acquires Metacafe

Metacafe is a video web company that was comparable to YouTube in terms of size at one point. YouTube grew by leaps and bounds while Metacafe tailed behind quite a bit. Hollywood management company The Collective has acquired Metacafe.

The Collective represents breakout viral video series publishers like the ones that created Freddie Wong and Annoying Orange. The Collective values Metacafe’s ad sales and infrastructure.

Most YouTube stars rely on Google’s sales force to help them make revenue deals. However there has been a rise in independent YouTube networks like Machinima and Maker Studios. Metacafe receives about 12 million unique visitors. Metacafe almost sold to Yahoo! for $200 million in 2006.
