The Digg Reader Is Now Built Into The Digg iOS App

The Digg Reader is an alternative to Google Reader and is intended for users to track their favorite RSS readers.  Google Reader is shutting down on July 1st.  The Digg app has been updated so that Digg Reader will be integrated into the Digg iOS app [iTunes link].  The Digg Reader will be added to their Android app in the next 3-4 weeks.

The reason why Digg Reader was built into the Digg iOS app is because they see and the RSS reader as complementary products.  By using Digg Reader, users will be able to “digg” (or vote up) for the content that they are reading.  Digg Reader will help the company track trending content.

Digg Reader will help Digg enhance the Popular Sort feature.  Popular Sort scores the last thousand items to determine what the most popular content is.  This will help publishers as referral traffic from Digg to online publishers have grown by 93% over the last 12 months, according to BuzzFeed back in April.
