The FDA Wants to Regulate Medical & Health Apps

Posted Jul 20, 2011

The US Food and Drug Administration has decided that they would like to regulate apps that give health advice. A false statement in an app can be just as dangerous as false claims on labels at the grocery store, and an “FDA-approved” sticker on health-related apps would definitely be a comfort. Some apps have already been FDA-approved, but the FDA is looking for public opinion on their potential involvement in app development and approval. [Gizmodo]

The FDA can be contacted regarding their app involvement at: Division of Dockets Management (HFA-305), Food and Drug Administration, 5630 Fishers Lane, Rm. 1061, Rockville, MD 20852.
