“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is a film that was directed by Peter Jackson. The Hobbit is now one out of 15 movies in history to hit over $1 billion worldwide. The movie made $301,134,992 domestically and $700,000,000 in foreign movie theaters, hitting a total of $1,001,134,992.

The movie earned $84.6 million in its opening weekend. It took about 77 days to hit the billion dollar mark. The current record holder is “Avatar.” That film earned around $2.78 billion since being released in 2009.
